Hygrophila Lancea, also known as Hygrophila ‘Araguaia’, is a captivating aquatic plant popular among aquascaping enthusiasts for its unique appearance and moderate care requirements. Originating from the Araguaia River in Brazil, this plant is also known to thrive in various parts of South and East Asia.

Key Features:

• Distinctive Appearance: Hygrophila Lancea features compact, needle-shaped leaves that can range in color from reddish-brown to purple, depending on the lighting and nutrient conditions. This coloration adds a striking contrast to any aquarium setup.
• Moderate Growth Rate: This plant grows at a moderate rate, reaching heights of 2 to 5 inches when submerged. It’s ideal for foreground placement in medium to large aquariums or as a midground plant in smaller tanks.
• Adaptable Conditions: Hygrophila Lancea thrives in water temperatures ranging from 64F to 86F and prefers slightly acidic to neutral water (pH 4-7). While it can grow without CO2 injection, providing CO2 and high-intensity lighting will enhance its growth and coloration.

Care and Maintenance:

• Lighting Requirements: Medium to bright lighting is recommended for optimal growth. High-intensity lighting can encourage the plant’s reddish-brown coloration.
• Nutrient Needs: This plant benefits from a nutrient-rich substrate and regular liquid fertilizers. When grown as an epiphyte attached to wood or rocks, additional liquid fertilizers and CO2 injection may be necessary.
• Trimming and Propagation: Regular trimming with sharp scissors will promote side shoot growth. The plant propagates through side shoots, which can be replanted to expand its presence in the aquarium.

Ideal for Aquascaping:

Hygrophila Lancea’s unique coloration and texture make it a perfect addition to create a visually appealing and dynamic aquascape. Its adaptability to different lighting and water conditions, combined with its moderate growth rate, makes it suitable for both novice and experienced aquarists.
